picked up Dorothea Brande's "Becoming a Writer" at the Odd Book used book store. Although written in the 1930's, still a useful little tome of info.

She had the idea of 'morning pages' LONG before Julia Cameron came along with 'The Artist's Way'. It makes me miffed that she would take the idea, slap a name on it and sort of sell it as her own. She doesn't mention dear old Dorothea in the text of the morning pages section, but far in the back of the book, under her 'reading list' she lists 'becoming a writer' with the note " The best book on writing I've ever found." Hmmm...

Still, both books useful in their own ways. Ms. Brande concentrates solely on the magic of writing, Ms. Cameron branches out into all areas of creativity.

getting closer to the end of the novel. I can't believe that within a month I may be finished with the first draft. the ending is still forming, mixing...all yeasty and warm in my brain. it's a good place to be. i'm not panicking...
